Astral Chandelier by jGoodDesign

Astral Chandelier by jGoodDesign

This first fixture is the Astral Chandelier by jGoodDesign. It is crafted of hand blown glass and is fully customizable. The fixture can be designed with either one tier of glass or multiple tiers and you have the option of either including or not including the satin stripes inside the fluted glass. The fluid, unique, airiness of this chandelier makes it incredibly versatile. More information can be seen here.

Bloom Lumen by Adam Frank

Bloom Lumen by Adam Frank

This oil lamp fixture is called Bloom Lumen and is by Adam Frank.  The series Lumen by Adam Frank act as shadow projectors. Each piece is unique and is meant to create a shadow on a wall. The flickering flame adds an organic dimension to the projected art. Adam Frank has six different varieties of the fixture and they can be seen and purchased ($48) here.

Fujiya Floor Lamp from Dare Studio

Fujiya Floor Lamp from Dare Studio

I love the simple yet interesting lines of the lamp. This lamp is the Fujiya Floor and Table lamp by Dare Studio. The lamps are available in either American Black Walnut or American White Walnut and the steel shades come in three colors- red, white, and black.  Gloss and custom colors are also available as a special order. It is manufactured in the UK, so if you are outside of th UK some rewiring may have to be done for this fixture. I think this would be a great accent to a home office!

Lighting Thursday!

September 17, 2009

This Thursday, I found a couple great fixtures.

Sola Chandelier by Niche Modern

Sola Chandelier by Niche Modern

The first fixtures is the Sola Chandelier by Niche Modern. The Sola is extremely customizable which is one of the reasons I really like it. You can choose the ring size (24″, 36″, 48″, 60″), the ring color (Brushed Nickle, Polished Nickle, Architectural Bronze, or Matte Black), the glass shape, and the glass color and orientation (some of the shapes can be mounted to the top of the ring). This is one of those fixtures that would be perfectly suited in a number of applications because of its flexibility. I could see it in an entry way, over a dining room table, or the focal point in a large living room.

Jenny Chandelier by Oly Studio

Jenny Chandelier by Oly Studio

This unique fixture is the Jenny Chandelier by Oly. The Jenny Chandelier is made with natural shells with antique silver hardware. It comes in both a large and a small size. The dimension of the small size is 21.75″ in diameter by 30″ in height and the large size is 27.5 in diameter by 39.5″ in height. The shell colors are either blue/green or ivory. Shown above is the blue/green fixture. Obviously this would be great in a beach house, but, if done correctly it could also be used in a very modern house for a touch of nature.

I love when a product serves two purposes…which is exactly why I love this light switch!

OFF- Light Switch Hook

OFF- Light Switch Hook

To encourage people to save more energy by turning off the lights in your house, the people at Amron Experimental bring you the OFF Light Switch Hook.  The switch is fully functioning and when it is in the off position, you can hang something on it!

Air Table Lamp by Ray Power for LZF

Air Table Lamp by Ray Power for LZF

This lamp is the Air Table Lamp by Ray Power for LZF Lamps. The lamp is made of Polywood and comes in two different table lamp sizes as well as a wall lamp. You can get any of the three fixtures in 8 different colors and it uses either incandescent or compact fluorescent bulbs. I love the fluid nature of this lamp. The organic shape is refreshing and the bright colors give it a whimsical style.

I saw this dining room on Dwell this morning and fell in love with it!

Pacific-Heights-Remodel-Dining-Room

Pacific Heights Remodel Dining Room by Nicole Hollis

The room was designed by Nicole Hollis of Nicole Hollis Interior Design and is located in Pacific Heights. Check out the full article for more information on the entire space.

I thought I would put together a few piece that could help you replicate this space in your own home.

First, the farm house table:

With the farm house bench:

Along with the modern wing back chair:

All three of the pieces above are from West Elm

Once you know the placement of your table, have an electrician install two j-boxes above the table and install two of these fixtures:

Besa Lighting Pendant Light- 1KV Tamburo Collection

Besa Lighting Pendant Light- 1KV Tamburo Collection

This fixture is by Besa Lighting and can be purchased from Form Plus Function.

The last major piece is the mirror. A mirror this size can be fabricated by a local glass shop. Have them put a simple frame around it and prop it against the wall and secure it to achieve the same effect as the picture above.

Add some clear glass tableware and you will have a great room!

DIY Basket Pendant

August 24, 2009

I found this great idea at two ellie for a Basket Pendant

Basket Light Pendant, Two Ellie

Basket Light Pendant, Two Ellie

To recreate this great pendant, all you need is a basket without handles, a simple down rod pendant, and someone that knows how to hang a light!

Get a basket, something like this from Curegirl0421 Etsy’s shop would work great for a little flair…

Big Pink Cloth Basket, from Etsy.com

And a simple downrod from Lowes or Home Depot like this.

Cut a hole in the bottom of the basket to match the size of the bottom (where the glass shade would attach) of the pendant and secure the basket to the fixture.

Have it wired to your j-box and viola! you have yourself a brand new pendant light fixture.

Lighting Thursday!

August 13, 2009

It’s Lighting Thursday and I have some good fixtures today- A natural pendant, an antique inspired wall sconce, and a playful, colorful table lamp.

Woven Pendant, West Elm

Woven Pendant, West Elm

First up, the Woven Pendant from West Elm. This fixture is made from palm leaves that have been woven together in this unique pattern over a powder coated metal frame. The pattern adds textural interest while still maintaing a modern look. It uses a 60W bulb, and is $199.00. West Elm shows the fixture above a dining table, which I love, but I also think this fixture would be perfect in a reading nook above a chair.

Rex, from Remains Lighting Collection

Rex, from Remains Lighting Collection

I am a lover of antiques, and this wall sconce from Remains Lighting  just caught my eye. This particular piece is a remake of an antique. It is called Rex and is available in a number of finishes from brass to bronze to nickel to pewter to silver to gold, with either a mirror, black glass or white glass inset panel. Shown is the Satin Nickel with black glass inset panel. When I see this fixture, I see it in a sophisticated library or dining room designed with the 1930’s in mind.

PXL, by Fredrik Mattson

PXL, by Fredrik Mattson

Lastly, we have PXL, a table lamp by Fredrik Mattson, and produced by Zero. PXL is multicolored lacquered aluminum and steel and uses a 60W/E27 lamp. Would look great in a kids room, a modern daycare, a colorful home office. I could see this lamp in endless spaces.

Lighting Thursday

August 6, 2009

I am hereby declaring Thursdays as Lighting Thursdays!  So, Get Excited!

yxta cocina mexicana

yxta cocina mexicana

The first piece of lighting we have today was sent to me by my sister. It is from yxta cocina mexicana in LA. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any information on the fixture, but if and when I do, I will be sure to let you know. For now, lets just admire it.

Flower, by Property Furniture

Flower, by Property Furniture

This second fixture is called Flower and it is by Property Furniture (propertyfurniture.com). Flower is 33″w x 39″h and is made of steel. It comes in unlimited colors including blackened steel, black metal, nickel, burnished bronze and any custom color you want. I love the shape of this fixture, and if done in the right color it could be used as a more feminine accent as well as a masculine inspired room.

Porcini, by Memake

Porcini, by Memake

Lastly, we have Porcini by Memake (memake.com.au). Unique and sustainable form the essence of these fixtures. Taking on the organic nature of the mushroom formed the basis for these handcrafted light fixtures. They are made from Tasmanian Oak, Australian beeswax and 100% pure wool, all of which are biodegradable and renewable. I could see these fixtures adding a sophisticated soft elegance in a muted color room, bringing natural and organic shapes inside.

Here are a couple unique lighting pieces which would brighten up any room…

Coral by Pallucco

Coral by Pallucco

This collection from Pallucco (pallucco.com) is called Coral.  The collection includes a table, floor, and suspended lamp. It is made with injected moulded polycarbonate and they use  fluorescent energy saving bulbs. The lights come in white, ivory, or black grey with either an orange or red branch used as the accent. These lamps would look great in a modern room, but could also add a unique contrast in a more traditional setting.

Pirce Suspension by Artemide

Pirce Suspension by Artemide

This suspended light is from Artemide (artemide.com) and is called the Pirce Suspension. The light is made from one continuous aluminum piece in a white finish which has been molded to create the spiral of the fixture. It is an indirect halogen light. I could see this lamp over a dining room table or as the focal point in a foyer. Its simplicity makes it perfect for multiple applications and styles.
